ARCHIVED: The following is OLD EVENT INFORMATION
Event: Family Day Festival - Elk Island National Park / Lamont County
2:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Celebrate Family Day the Canadian way and watch as Elk Island National Park is transformed into a whimsical winter wonderland filled with classic winter experiences for the whole family.
New this year: Hitch a ride through the park on a horse drawn sleigh and see the park in a whole new way!.
Discover the beauty of the frosted landscape by skating around the islands of Astotin Lake, snowshoeing over untouched snow, or tobogganing down snow-capped hills.
Listen to live musical performances, speak with volunteers from the Friends of Elk Island Society, or try building a quinzee with Parks Canada staff throughout the afternoon. Stay warm around a crackling campfire or enjoy a tasty treat at the Elk Island National Park Golf Course.
Once the activities wrap up, the fun doesn’t have to end. The park remains open to the public 24 hours per day. Bring snacks to roast around the fire and watch as the sun sets and stars are revealed: as part of the Beaver Hills Dark Sky Preserve, Elk Island National Park is a great place to view the night sky.
Snowshoe rentals are available, but remember to pack warm winter gear, safety equipment, and any other activity specific gear that may be needed.
Entry fees apply
