The Collective Art Market - Celebrating Local Artists in Downtown Lloydminster!
Creative * Community * Collective

Lloydminster is home to tremendous artistic talent, which inspired the opening of The Collective Art Market downtown in April 2016.

The Collective Art Market is a retail boutique store that sells the work of local artists/artisans and hosts workshops in their classroom/studio. It is a synergistic business model based on the unique founding story of The Collective Art Market’s team: Beth Bernard, Cate Dow and Dawn Lawrence Floen.

In March 2016, The Collective Art Market began as a retail pop-up at the Synergy Credit Union Entrepreneur Corner with the three owners and 15 of their artistic friends. The excellent response was the spark that lit up the idea of a location in the heart of downtown Lloydminster. “Becoming a permanent location surpassed our best hopes,” says Dawn.

It was a big step for the women, each of whom have a background in the arts. Beth and Dawn are jewelry artists and Cate is a fibre artist. Pooling their personal and professional expertise facilitated the launch of The Collective Art Market.

The vision for The Collective Art Market is to focus on local art. “The number of artists and artisans in the Lloydminster area has surprised us,” says Cate.

The Collective Art Market team often spends a large portion of their day sharing the artists’ techniques, history and approach to their creative output. “It is a focus on relationships and community that has been present since the launch of the store,” says Dawn. “The abundance of talent in our community brings people into our store.”

Customers are known to come in weekly to see the new treasures and works. Incredibly popular items, such as clever coffee mugs and unique necklaces are difficult to keep in stock. “We have become a ‘go to’ destination for gifts,” says Dawn. Custom commissions are welcome as well. Beth, Dawn and Cate will foster discussion between artist and client for the perfect piece.

The workshops enhance the retail aspect of The Collective Art Market. Artists instruct techniques in their chosen medium using high-quality supplies. “Some of the artists have developed ‘cult followings’ for their classes, which sell out very quickly,” says Beth. “Every single artist in the store has people who connect with their art and support it.”

This thriving relationship between the artists and their local community is enabled in part by a deliberate approach to artist development. Beth explains how being a part of The Collective Art Market is a holistic growth experience for artists. “We share learning in all types of areas, such as marketing on social media or business strategies like creating prints. We constantly are sharing opportunities for grants, art shows and ways for the artists to advance their careers.”

There is a burgeoning revitalization in downtown Lloydminster. The Collective Art Market is consciously supporting that movement by connecting the artists to the community, building a vibrant relationship.

You can be a part of it all:
