On the first Saturday of October, throngs of visitors descend on the town of Smoky Lake to take in the festivities of The Great White North Pumpkin Weigh-Off.

Throughout the day, enjoy endless family activities throughout the Complex grounds (including a petting zoo, midway, face painting and balloons, just to get you started!), live entertainment, and many food vendors. Take in the huge farmers’ market and a souvenir booth.

Enjoy all of the related festivities on the Complex grounds, including many food vendors, entertainment by Northern Kings, a huge farmers' market, souvenir booth, many children's activities - including a petting zoo, midway, face painting and balloons, and a threshing bee demonstration near the museum. As well, you can enjoy so much more all throughout the community during this popular weekend with a Show and Shine downtown, beer gardens and food at the Smoky Lake Curling Rink, a Ukrainian cultural showcase, a delicious supper and old-time country dance at the Warspite Community Hall and so much more!

The highlight of the festival is the much-anticipated Pumpkin Weigh-Off where the scales determine which competitor gets the year’s coveted top prize award. In 2015, Raymond Beaudin went home with this honour, having smashed all previous records when his pumpkin weighed in at 1,470.5 lbs!

Want to take home one of these giant pumpkins? Stick around for the pumpkin auction!

Why not make a weekend of this fantastic event and participate in the Pumpkin Classic Golf Tournament at the Smoky Lake Golf Course on Sunday. This course offers you an incredible display of autumn colours!

Spend the night at the Super 8 and enjoy a complimentary breakfast in the morning, as well as a 40-inch flat screen HDTV, free WiFi, fridge, coffee and tea maker. Or try the historic Smoky Lake Inn where you’ll enjoy a luxurious stay in one of the modernized rooms as well as fine dining in the restaurant on site.

Make sure to take the time to visit Betsy’s Burger Shack for a fantastic 50’s themed dining experience and the Old Fashioned Bakery and Deli for authentic Ukrainian baked goods. If you love antiques, take a short trip down the road and visit Bellis Heritage Corner Shoppe – it’s worth the trip!

Over 6,000 visitors make the trip to Smoky Lake every October for this unique and fun event. Make sure you’re one of them this October 7th.
