Canada Day 150 - East of Edmonton Style!

Canada is about to celebrate a momentous milestone this July 1st – 150 years of being a nation!
Celebrations have been going on all through the year, and will continue on to the end of the year, but on July 1st, extra special celebratory events will be happening all across Canada in honour of this special occasion. That is certainly true for the east of Edmonton region. We have more than 30 Canada 150 celebrations on our events calendar!
Below, find details on a selection of the many amazing events going on this Canada Day.
Cold Lake – Start the day off with a pancake breakfast Kinosoo Beach then take in the Canada Day parade, enjoy the festivities at Kinosoo Beach (including a volleyball tournament), and stay for a FREE concert on the beach featuring Bif Naked! Fireworks at the marina finish up this spectacular event.
Camrose – Check out Camrose this Canada Day for a pancake breakfast, all day family fun (including another fantastic Show ‘n Shine event along Mainstreet), and a great fireworks display at dusk.
Mundare – A premier event for Lamont County, the Mundare Canada Day Street Festival is an all ages event featuring live street performances, including music and dance performances. Don’t miss getting your face painted and a picture at the photo booth! Food vendors will be onsite offering up delicious eats all day.
Elk Island National Park – Enjoy FREE gate admission to Elk Island National Park part of the Parks Canada 150 free admissions program for all of 2017 and then take part in a Canada Day festival that will take you back to the essence of Canada. You’ll love the many fun family activities at Astotin Lake Recreation area, including pemmican making, Learn to Camp, resource conservation, live shows on the main stage, and much more! Don’t miss a Bison Backstage Tour, with one beginning every hour, on the hour, between 11:00 am and 4:00 pm.
Strathcona County – A spectacular parade and festival await you in the heart of Sherwood Park this Canada Day. The day’s activities include the parade, pancake breakfast, inflatables, bubble soccer, carnival games, face painting, laser tag, petting zoo, pony rides, entertainment throughout the day, a spectacular fireworks display, and so much more!
Wainwright – Wainwright offers a fantastic Canada Day celebration event at the Garrison Wainwright, kicking off with a delicious pancake breakfast. Family entertainment can be enjoyed from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm, including inflatables, canoe rides, ATV rides, petting zoo, face painting, roving entertainers, and more! Beer gardens are open from 5:00 pm until 11:00 pm. Don’t miss the O Canada Cake Cutting and presentations at 6:00 pm and then head over to for the main stage entertainment for great live performances. Food and drink vendors will be onsite all day, and you’ll have access to FREE shuttle service as well. Make sure to stay for the fireworks to finish up the festivities.
Lavoy – Take the family to enjoy games and a hearty steak supper in Lavoy!
Lac La Biche – Check out the Canada Day celebrations and fireworks at the Lac La Biche Mission; it’s a free party that kicks off with a pancake breakfast. Take the kids to enjoy the many activities and enjoy the artists displays, onsite concessions, and take in the cultural performances on stage. Don’t miss the steak supper and fireworks at dusk.
Daysland – Head over to the Fire Hall first thing in the morning for the fireman’s pancake breakfast. Enjoy a day of festivities at Westview Manor Park & Playground featuring live entertainment, cake cutting, hamburger and hot dog lunch, bouncy castle and kids activities, and all-day farmer’s market.
Kitscoty – Beginning with a pancake breakfast and ending with fireworks, come to Kitscoty to celebrate Canada Day this year. The day includes a parade, quilt show, country fair, chilli cook-off, games and activities at the park, grand opening of Heritage Park, supper and dance, and more.
Vegreville – A day filled with celebration, beginning with a pancake breakfast, awaits you in Vegreville this Canada Day. Take advantage of the free bus service in Vegreville from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm to shuttle between event locations. Entertainment and activities will keep the little ones occupied all day, and the fireworks display at dusk will wow you.
Thorhild – Come out for a day of fun, featuring a parade and a rodeo!
Smoky Lake – Family fun awaits you in Smoky Lake with a kiddie parade in downtown Smoky Lake at 11:00 am, and followed by a dino dig, entertainment and games, FREE hot dog lunch and Canada Day cake.
St. Paul – Check out this two-day Canada 150 and UFO Landing Pad Celebration happening June 30th and July 1st. Food trucks, games, kids’ activities, beer gardens, penny carnival, movie in the park on Friday, and jamboree, open-air dance with Boomtown, and fireworks on Saturday. It’s gonna be a good time!
Tofield – A full weekend of fun, the Canada Day celebrations in Tofield are happening from Friday evening until Sunday evening. Friday evening features socials at the legion and curling club. The rest of the weekend, enjoy a pancake breakfast, quilt show, parade, Canada Day cake and coffee, a family gymkhana, kids games and activities, talent competition, family supper and dance, fireworks, and more!
