27th Annual Pyrogy Festival
September 1st

There are more reasons than the Worlds Biggest Pyrogy to visit Glendon, Alberta this weekend! Saturday afternoon at 1 pm the annual Pyrogy Festival begins. Join the community in this celebration of their heritage and history with activities for the whole family! The kids will have their choice of events like the Children’s Street hockey tourney, the new Pyrogy Park Playground or a Pyrogy-eating contest!! Challenge your teenagers (15 and older) to a bean bag tournament for a chance to when a bean bag board set prize! You won’t want to miss out on the marketplace! They have over 12 vendors who all make homemade artisans of all types. Like Ukrainian food?! Buy your lunch or supper at the Festival or be sure to sign the guest book for a chance to win free handmade (in Glendon, with love) pyrogies! Be sure to get a fun family photo with the Pyrogy and enter our photo contest while you’re there!

Milky Way Days
Elk Island National Park
September 2nd

Did you know just 35 mins East of Edmonton is a Royal Astronomical Society of Canada designated Dark-Sky Preserve?! For us this simply means we have a wicked place to go stargazing and check out the Northern lights! Pack a picnic and head out to Elk Island National Park Saturday for a day of music, crafts, solar viewing and interactive displays to expand your astronomical knowledge! Take advantage of the long weekend, stay up a little later with the kids and enjoy a stunning sunset over Astotin Lake and then see the big night sky through volunteer-provided telescopes! Plan to take in the guest speaker at the Astotin Theatre at 8 pm and then pick up your special night geocaching guide for a high tech scavenger hunt!

Lakeland Rodeo Association (LRA) Finals
St Paul
August 26th – September 2nd

Shine your belt buckle, dust of your boots and cheer on the competitors as they battle for the LRA championship title this weekend in St. Paul! Eat like a cowboy the whole week, from pancake breakfasts to a Chili Cook-Off, BBQ lunches or a Ukrainian Lunch and so much more! Take in all five rodeo performances for only $65 for adults and $20 for kids. Each performance is a tribute to different organizations or people, so be sure to check out the schedule here to dress in the supportive color. For example, Saturday afternoon is in recognition of the Stollery Children’s Hospital, so wear purple to support them! There will also be events for the kids, an art exhibit & sale and more to keep the fun going all week long!

Harvest Festival
Reynolds Museum Wetaskiwin
September 1st – 2nd

Celebrate the historic sights, sounds and smells of bringing in the harvest at Reynolds museum this weekend! The farm machinery is all reved up and raring to display how they harvest wheat crops, using both the gasoline and steam engines. You can watch how threshing machines work, view the modern John Deere equipment display or purchase an open cockpit bi-plane adventure! There is so much for everyone of all ages this weekend and your experience can be enhanced with the purchase of the Family Fun Package. This package will include tractor rides, carnival games and visiting the petting zoo. All of this and we haven’t even talked about all there is to do in the museum! Just to give you a little taste - Learn how to bake bread, make a rope or dance to the music of the Foggy Minded Mountain Boys! Learn how our food is brought to your table, give some thanks to the wonderful people who make it all possible and enjoy learning all about Harvest this weekend at Reynolds museum!
