Here’s a listing of lakes, parks and natural areas for families looking to take a bold jump into the great outdoors.
Strathcona Wilderness Centre
An outdoor adventure centre for all seasons, the Strathcona Wilderness Centre is bursting at the seams with choice. During the summer, families can enjoy viewing wildlife, embark upon day camping trips, explore more than 12 km of hiking trails or try a game of disc golf.
Half Moon Lake Park
Named for the lake's crescent shape, Half Moon Lake Park offers a myriad of camping options, a beach and recreation amenities such as bicycles, canoes, paddle boats and fishing rods. There’s also a boat launch available if you’re looking to get out onto the water this summer.
Bruderheim Natural Area
If you’re looking for a safe area to offroad in, this spot in Bruderheim is your best bet. With its wide trails, this designated area is meant for ATVs. You'll want to avoid some of the routes designed for snowmobiles but beyond that, the entire sand pit is perfect for a rip or two.
Lion’s Community Fish Pond
You can find this popular fishing spot in Fort Saskatchewan's West River's Edge. A rainbow trout stockland, Lion’s Community Fish Pond is great for those looking for a quick little fishing expedition. Should you need a break, you're not too far away from numerous walking trails abundant with local flora and fauna.
Rainbow Park Reservoir
You won’t go wrong with this gorgeous patch of fishing area just south of the town of Vegreville. It is home to plenty of fish available in a lovely, man made pond. It’s also home to a hefty bird population, not to mention numerous walking and skiing trails.
Sand Dune Fields
Boasting the largest sand dune hills in the region, this an absolute must for ATV enthusiasts and hiking fans. Located only 5 minutes from Redwater, this area is 1,810 hectares of adventure no matter what you’re looking for.
