Highway 16 Tour
The Highway 16 route takes you from Lloydminster at the west end and through the hometown of Go East of Edmonton - Vegreville, through the newly established Beaver Hills Biosphere, Sherwood Park and all the way to Edmonton and lots of really awesome stuff to see and do along the way.
EventsThe Lavoy Action Society offers up some fun events through the year, including a Mother's Day event and Canada Day Celebrations.
In Vegreville, you'll get treated to numerous top-class events throughout the year, including the annual Father's Day Event, the Pysanka Festival, and the Country Fair!
The Josephburg Agricultural Society is active throughout the year with events ranging from The Country Classics - the county's largest livestock event, Josephburg Presents - a popular concert series, and Christmas in the Heartland - a popular event that welcomes the holiday season.
One of the oldest and most loved summer fairs in the region is the Vermilion Fair. Make sure your summer plans include this fantastic event!
MuseumsThe Vegreville Regional Museum, the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village and the Strathcona County Museum and Archives are just a few of the attractions you can visit to get to know some of the interesting history of our region. At the Vegreville Regional Museum you can expect to find details of stories which shaped local history since 1890. At the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village you will be able to experience history come to life throughout the open season as real life actors portray everyday life of the pioneer Ukrainian culture. Head over to the Strathcona County Museum and Archives for interpretive tours and visits and detailed displays and exhibits themed around Aboriginal culture and the pioneer era.
Roadside AttractionsLloydminster has the distinction of being the border city with the tallest border markers in Canada. Head east to Vegreville and stop in at the Elks Park, the location of the world's largest pysanka.
GolfWe've got awesome golfing all along the scenic Highway 16 route, including Elk Island Golf Course and Whitetail Crossing Golf Course in Mundare.

TrailsOur towns and cities are doing a great job developing fun parks and awesome trail systems. Check out the playground, outdoor fitness centre and walking trail in Vegreville while you're visiting The World's Largest Pysanka at the Elk's Park.
Sherwood Park is a particularly notable location for trail systems with the entire city being carefully planned and masterminded - including trail systems throughout. Not to mention exceptional playgrounds and splash park.
Hiking lovers will want to check out Elk Island National Park. See the bison and other wildlife, enjoy the beauty and tranquility of nature all around you and fill your lungs with clean, crisp fresh air. Another excellent natural park destination for your hiking pleasure is the Cooking Lake Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area.

MarketsEnjoy Shop in the Park in Vegreville every Friday from 3:00PM to 7:00PM. Head over to Little Guy Liqour in Sherwood Park for a generous selection of local brews and hard to find products. Stop in at Prime Cuts along mainstreet, Vegreville for delicious meats and sausages for your homemade dinner. It wouldn't be a complete market tour along Highway 16 without a stop in at the Stawnichy's Meat Processing store - your destination for all of your traditionally made Ukrainian meat products!
