Saturday's events begin with a hearty pancake breakfast at 8:00 and are followed by a heavy horse pull, rodeo, kids wild pony race, sheep riding, wild horse race, wild cow milking, silent auction and another dance to finish off the event on a high note.
Just for the kids: A child's bicycle will be given away on each day of this event!
Camping is available, free of charge!
It's Ellie here! I'm the Marketing and Communications Co-ordinator at Go East of Edmonton, and I attended the Hairy Hill Rodeo on July 9th, 2016. I've been a proud Albertan for three and a half years now and this was my very first rodeo. And what a fabulous introduction to the rodeo scene it was!
The heavy horse pull was the first thing I was introduced to, prior to the rodeo line-up:
The full rodeo event started at 4:00. Check out some of these photos of some of the events in the line-up. I'm partial to barrel racing.
It's always fun to be in the crowd that loves to be there. Do you see yourself, or someone you know here?
During the rodeo, there was also the kids' wild pony race, kids' sheep riding, wild cow milking and to finish up my very first Alberta rodeo experience, I witnessed a whiskey race where participants' boots were tossed into a frenzied mix in the middle of the arena and the contestants had to race to the pile, find and put on both of their boots and reach the holder of the whiskey bottle at the finish line. It was quite hilarious.
This is an annual rodeo event in our region and it's a favourite for many people year after year. Be sure to plan your attendance in 2017!
