Elk Island National Park
Rediscover the peace and beauty of the prairie landscape
Rediscover the peace and beauty of the prairie landscape at Elk Island National Park in 2017. The Government of Canada invites Canadians to experience and learn more about our environment and our heritage throughout 2017 – the 150th anniversary of Confederation. Admission to Elk Island National Park is free in 2017 (camping and program fees still apply). There are numerous opportunities to spot wildlife just a half hour away from Edmonton! Keep an eye out for elk, white tailed deer and moose that roam freely within the Park. As you explore, watch as plains and wood bison herds graze in their natural habitat or observe the antics of industrious beavers building lodges and dams. See how many of the 250 bird species flying overhead you can spot!

Today nearly every plains bison you see in southern Canada, whether in conservation or domestic herds, had an ancestor in Elk Island National Park. That's something to celebrate! Join us for this sensory festival celebrating all things bison, from conservation, to culture, to cuisine!
