Elk Island National Park

Rediscover the peace and beauty of the prairie landscape

Rediscover the peace and beauty of the prairie landscape at Elk Island National Park in 2017. The Government of Canada invites Canadians to experience and learn more about our environment and our heritage throughout 2017 – the 150th anniversary of Confederation. Admission to Elk Island National Park is free in 2017 (camping and program fees still apply). There are numerous opportunities to spot wildlife just a half hour away from Edmonton! Keep an eye out for elk, white tailed deer and moose that roam freely within the Park. As you explore, watch as plains and wood bison herds graze in their natural habitat or observe the antics of industrious beavers building lodges and dams. See how many of the 250 bird species flying overhead you can spot!

Some prefer five stars…visit Elk Island National Park where you can see many, many more. Enjoy a truly Canadian camping experience at the Astotin Lake campground. Situated near Astotin Lake and overlooking a picturesque marshland, this campground is a spectacular place to set up camp and enjoy the warmth of a fire as the sun sets. These unserviced campsites provide quick access to the beach, soccer field, playground, golf course and interpretive theatre. All sites include picnic tables and fire pits and are located near shower and washroom facilities. The campground is open annually from May to October (weather permitting).

New this year – oTENTiks! The oTENTik is an A-frame tent and cabin in one that offers a unique blend of homey comfort and a taste of outdoor adventure. It's a unique concept for visitors to enjoy camping with the comfort of a bed and a campsite already set up and ready to go.
