Hamlet of Radway
Located approximately 40 minutes northeast of Edmonton, drop into Radway for some history and for some great music festivals. See the last of 5 grain elevators that once marked the skyline of Radway. Call 780-736-3542 to book a tour of the 1929 Krause Milling Company Grain Elevator, which was a successful milling company during the Great Depression. Come out to Radway Fish Pond to have a relaxing day of trout fishing. Radway is an events destination at the Agri Centre. Check the Radway Agricultural Society on Facebook for event dates.
Thorhild County Attractions & Events
At the Thorhild Museum, step through the doors into a general store and view exhibits depicting the pioneers who settled in the area. Thorhild Centennial Park is where you will find the Thorhild swimming pool, camping, tennis courts, playground and ball diamonds.
Newbrook is known for the former Newbrook Observatory that captured the first North American photograph of the world's first satellite, Sputnik No. 1 on October 9, 1957. Watch for further developments of the Observatory coming soon.
Radway AgriCentre Music Festivals are a series of must attend events for music lovers. The Egremont community hosts it's celebration including a parade. Get to the Newbrook Community Fair early for the parade and stay late for the steak supper. Also enjoy the wild action of the Thorhild & District Stampede.
Outdoors
Half Moon Lake Park Natural Area in the south west area of the County; provides a scenic campground with 13 campsites. Visitors can walk the trails, have a picnic in the day use area, and have fun at the playground. Take your boat out for a day on the water. Come out to Radway Fish Pond to have a relaxing day of fishing - it's re-stocked annually!
Long Lake Provincial Park was established in 1957 and has become a popular destination with full amenities. Whether it is a day trip to the beach or camping for a week, you will soon return. Nearby activities include Northern Ridge Golf Resort, trail rides, and a paintball park. George’s RV offers year-round RV sites. White Earth Valley Natural Area is a 2055-hectare naturalist's gem. The 17 km White Earth Trail winds through a variety of rich habitats, with an abundance of diverse plants and wildlife. Hiking, wildlife viewing, horseback riding and geocaching are just some of the activities that your family will encounter. It is accessible from adjacent Long Lake Provincial Park during the operating season, with year-round access from Township Road 621.
Long Lake Ski Area is nestled within the trees with a spectacular view of the lake. The 12 runs are open from December until April for downhill and cross-country skiing, as well as snowboarding and tobogganing. Rentals, lessons, and a cafeteria are on site. http://skilonglake.com/
